How it works
Everything you say is completely confidential. I don’t even share the names of my clients without their permission, let alone any details of our conversations.
We meet via Zoom. Though if your internet connection is poor, we could also talk on the phone. Try to be somewhere quiet and private, where you feel comfortable talking.
Sessions are 90 minutes long, to give us time to go deep and have a relaxed, unhurried conversation. And also to talk in great big meandering loops, which I find many creatives tend to do – myself included!
I charge £99 for these sessions. Here’s a short article explaining why.
Before our session
Before the session, you will fill out a form with some clarifying questions. This helps me know more about you and what you need and means we can get right into it during our session; it also helps you work out what you want from coaching, and from your creative life in general.
A coaching session is just a chat. It’s not a test, an audition or any other kind of performance. Hopefully I’ll ask some questions that will help you see your situation differently, and perhaps give you some new approaches. But there is nothing to prepare, no judgement or grading.
It might be helpful for you to have a clear idea of what you want from the session. But a more general exploratory conversation is fine, too.
A notebook and pen can be useful, just so you can jot down anything you want to remember, action points or resources you want to try. I’m happy to record the session if that’s helpful to you. But do let me know, because I only do this if requested to.
During the session
Bring your questions, your fears and insecurities, your blocks and frustrations. But most of all, just show up and bring yourself. The more open and honest you’re able to be, the more value you’ll get from the session.
We have only just met. Inevitably, I’ll get things wrong and suggest things that won’t be right for you. Please don’t listen politely! I’m here to support you and give as much value as I can, so interrupt if I’ve misunderstood, or if I’m going in an unhelpful direction. There are no one-size-fits-all solutions, so I have lots more tools and strategies to try!
No question is too stupid. No apologies are necessary. This is a safe space to discuss whatever you need to discuss.
I’m a writer, so I know all about procrastination, perfectionism, self-doubt, fear, and all the other gremlins that get in the way of creative process. As a magazine editor, I’ve worked closely with a wide variety of talented designers, art directors, photographers, fashion stylists and illustrators. As a journalist, I’ve interviewed A-listers and innovators, people at the very top of fields like film, music, fashion, design, dance, theatre, art, architecture. Yet I still learn something new in almost every coaching conversation.
Come with an open mind. Let’s both learn all we can from each other.
